Were they eager to talk about Halston, or did you have to do some wrangling?WSS: Everyone couldn't have been more helpful—of course, scheduling them was a different matter. But Halston was a revered and respected person in their lives, and they wanted to do whatever they could to help tell his story. Liza was amazing—and incredibly intimidating. I walked into her apartment for the interview, and the first thing I saw were all these hand-painted Warhols of her and of her parents, Judy Garland and Vincente Minnelli. It was quite daunting, to say the least, but she couldn't have been sweeter and was michael kors outlet a huge help in attracting other talent.
“Because I travel so much, often with my collections I take people on a journey to a place, from Aspen to Capri to Wyoming. But at the end of the day, I’m an urban animal. So I thought, ‘OK, wait a minute, let’s talk about how we’re going to get dressed for urban life.’ We’ve got to go to work, we’ve got michael kors outlets to go to dinner, we’ve got to deal with this calendar that’s exploding. Life is so fast-paced now that you almost have to be an athlete just to live city life. But you want to be sophisticated, you want to be glamorous, you want a bit of luxury. And then, of course, Hurricane Sandy hit and everyone was basically dressed for survival. People were throwing a Patagonia jacket over a cocktail dress because you just had to grab your clothes out of the house! That’s part of how I design: It’s about what’s going on in the world. Because fashion’s the zeitgeist. It’s not, ‘Oh, I went through a book and I was looking at a Degas painting and I said, “Voila, let there be Degas!”’ michael kors bags But, like, why Degas right now? There’s got to be a reason for it.”Your brand has always been about luxury, glamour and the jetset lifestyle. Does your success seem kind of like a self-fulfilling prophecy?
WSS: It was filmed over a year and a half. As the film is a bit of a surrealist pastiche, I wanted to mix it up, provide some comic relief to an already pretty heavy story. My character is a bit of a Dante taking you through the nine rings, with ridiculous ’70s-style outfits.MORE: There’s not much talk about Halston’s youth—how a boy from Des Moines, Iowa, ended up the face of ’70s 2015 michael kors outlet fashion and glamour.
